Sixth Edition of the Engadin Ultra Trail: A Successful Trail Running Weekend in the Upper Engadin

Samedan, 19 July 2026 – Last weekend (17–18 July 2026), the sixth edition of the Engadin Ultra Trail took place in the Upper Engadin. Hundreds of runners took to the various courses under the motto «Discover your power». Participants enjoyed a well-organised sporting weekend on diverse trails against a beautiful mountain backdrop, with racing across all distances from the flagship EUT102 to the shorter routes.

Strong Performances on the Long Distance EUT102

The most demanding challenge of the weekend was the EUT102, which took runners along the Engadin panorama trails and beyond the 100-kilometre mark. In the men's race, Tristan Blanchard ran a strong event and secured overall victory in a time of 12:33:57. Behind him came a notable podium moment: Manuel Sprenger and Flavius Platon ran a tight race and crossed the finish line simultaneously in 13:27:59, sharing second place. Local runner Tiziano Zeller delighted the home crowd with a consistent effort, finishing in 14:01:44 in fourth place overall.

In the women's field, Tanja Plaikner claimed the top spot on the podium. She completed the course in 15:31:41. Klara Schröder (16:33:44) followed in second and Cécile Zihlmann (17:43:39) in third place overall.

Close Racing on the Marathon Distance EUT53

The 53-kilometre course offered participants a varied route, though the elevation gain made for a demanding day. In the men's race, Swiss runner Christoph Seitz took the win in 05:27:01, ahead of Raphaël Niederhauser (05:34:02) and Samuel Manser (05:53:03) in second and third.

In the women's field of the EUT53, Annabel Fisher claimed first place. The La Punt-based runner crossed the finish line in 06:04:50. Caroline Dafflon finished second in 06:14:23, followed by Isabelle Anrig, who completed the race in 06:58:02 in third place.

Course Record at ET23 and a Relaxed Atmosphere at ET16

The half-marathon distance ET23 attracted many participants and produced a historic result. In the women's race, Flurina Eichholzer not only celebrated her second consecutive victory in 01:57:47, but also set an impressive new course record. Romain Pittet (02:21:26) and Cécile Lanz (02:21:33) followed in the remaining places. In the men's race, Loris Pellaz stormed to victory in 01:48:14, ahead of Michael Eggenberger (02:00:39) and Luca Botti (02:01:13).

The start of the 16-kilometre course (ET16) – which is ideally suited as an introduction to the world of trail running – made for a wonderful scene. Runners were not the only ones at the start line: numerous dogs accompanied their owners, creating a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere in the field. On the course, the fastest eventually prevailed: in the men's race, Thomas Granjou took overall victory in 01:26:45, followed by Sascha Hosennen (01:30:36) and Nicola Defila (01:31:40). In the women's field, Sabina Bigger claimed first place in 01:31:43, ahead of Tamara Aderneuer (01:40:51) and Fabienne Schnellmann (01:40:51).

Organisers Draw a Positive Conclusion

The event was a success both on the sporting and organisational fronts. The sixth edition has confirmed that the Engadin Ultra Trail holds a firm place in the quieter regions of the Upper Engadin. The atmosphere along the courses and in the finish area at the Promulins Arena in Samedan was excellent, says race director Reto Franziscus with satisfaction. The organising committee extends a heartfelt «Grazcha fich» – thank you in Romansh – to the many volunteers, sponsors and regional partners, without whose support an event of this scale would not be possible.

Looking Ahead to 2027: The Long Distance Now Also as a Relay

The organising team is already looking to the year ahead and has announced something new. In 2027, the programme will be extended by a relay category, allowing teams to share the 102-kilometre course between them. This opens up the long distance to runners who want to experience the challenge of this route together as a team.
