Engadin Ultra Trail as an independent event

The Samedan Trail Sports Association takes over the organisation of the "Engadin Ultra Trail" races.

For many trail runners the Engadin Ultra Trail is nothing new. The Swissalpine Irontrail - the prologue to the well-known Swiss Alpine Davos - has already taken place three times on some sections of the route. In 2019 Swissalpine Davos decided to take new roads - or better said - paths.

The team around Reto Franziscus and Oliver Wertmann, who in previous years helped organise the Irontrail in the Engadin, decided to continue the history of trail running in the Engadin.

The organising committee, made up of regionally well-established Engadin thoroughbreds, will organise the Engadin Ultra Trail from A to Z in the future.

"It is important to us that the Engadin Ultra Trail is regionally anchored. In the quietest part of the Upper Engadin we have designed attractive and modern trail running routes".

The adapted routes run through the lesser-known but no less beautiful lower part of the Upper Engadin from Zuoz to Celerina. It is the quietest part of this unique Upper Inn Valley and not as popular with tourists as the region around St. Moritz.

The varied trails wind through five characteristic villages and the surrounding mountains with spectacular viewpoints and famous names such as Corviglia, Muottas da Schlarigna, Muottas Muragl, Munt Seja, the Padella Panoramic Trail and the Chamanna d'Es-cha.

Fascinating panoramic views of the Engadin follow one another continuously, and at many points along the route runners can already see the next passages.

The alternation of mountain and valley sections not only makes the routes attractive, but also makes it easier for the runners to be assisted.

The EUT102, EUT53 and ET23 races are ITRA and UTMB qualifying races.

In addition to the challenging trails and picturesque views, great importance is attached to safety. There is an alternative route as a bad weather variant for each section of the high-altitude sections. A large part of the route can be reached by vehicles on forest and alpine roads. Mobile phone reception is possible on 97% of the route.
